Authors Interviews

My conversation with Author Kristy Black

photo 2Tell us a little more about yourself?

After graduation from San Jose State University, I worked for several years as an educational specialist helping children of all ages improve their visual-motor skills as well as their reading and writing fluency skills.

Quickly, tell us about your upcoming releases?

I am working with a screenwriter who is writing a screenplay based on the first book, Magistan. I am currently outlining the second book in the Magistan series.

Do you have any specific inspiring incident that turned you out as an author?

While in school, I had the opportunity to do a creative project for my Master’s Thesis. Having the option to do a creative project rather than a scientific project inspired me to write a fiction story that was educationally based.

Who designed your cover art? How did you choose the image?

My husband Ethan Black designed the cover. He chose the image because he wanted it to portray the world of Magistan seen through a keyhole while showing the main character, Sofia Hanalei beginning her journey.

Do you outline your work before you write?

I do outline my work before I write. My outline is a combination of scene notes and sketches, which allows me to go back and fill in the details later on.

How do you like spending your leisure hours?

I like spending my leisure hours doing anything outside. What I enjoy most is gardening, swimming, hiking or lounging just at the beach.

Which genre is far more appealing to you as a reader?

The genre that appeals most to me is fantasy. I love a good mystery as well.

What inspires you to write? Is there any level of similarity with the events or characters in your book and in reality?

Nature inspires me to write. I feel it is a large part of the characters in my story and the world in which they live.

Which is your current read?

My current read is National Geographic. I love the short stories and the awesome photography.

What, in your opinion is the toughest part while carving your book?

The toughest part in craving my book is staying focused. Often I find my imagination running away and I have to reel it back keeping in mind my story goal.

Share a word of advice with our readers and authors, if any?

Follow your dreams and write… write… write….

Share one of your favorites from your music band collection, if any?

I enjoy listening to solo pianist such as, George Winston.

If you’re a foodie, tell us about your favorite dish?

My favorite food is Salmon in a dill sauce with sautéed potatoes and broccoli.

List any giveaways or surprises in mere future?

I hope to have both the screenplay and the second book in the Magistan series completed within the next year.

Where can we find your books?

My book, Magistan can be found on Wattpad.
