Tell us a little more about yourself?
I am a wife, mother, grandmother and a Great-grand. I retired from being an RN a couple of years ago after working almost 33 years. I was born in California but lived the majority of my life in rural Oklahoma. Right now I live in the Tulsa area with my husband and animals (3 dogs, 3 cats). It’s like living in a house full of 3 year olds. I love God and my family and I live the fullest possible enjoying my retirement. I love to read, write and travel along with knitting and crotchet.
Quickly, tell us about your upcoming releases?
I have started the second of my Jensen Mystery series. At this time I have the first chapter completed.
Do you have any specific inspiring incident that turned you out as an author?
I can’t say it was an incident, but shortly after I retired, I woke one morning thinking I’m going to write a book. That is exactly what I did. I began writing “The Tower.”
Who designed your cover art? How did you choose the image?
For The Tower, Dobyns Chronicles and Shirley’s Shorts and Flashes, it was created through 99 Designs.com. That was a fascinating process. They had several graphic designers create a book cover to my specifications and then I picked the winner who then received the money.
Do you outline your work before you write?
No I don’t. It seems the words come out as they are supposed to. That’s not to say I don’t rework them sometimes with my editing, but for the most part the story flows smoothly at the time of writing.
How do you like spending your leisure hours?
Being retired I have a lot of leisure hours but I enjoy going out into my back yard, sitting on my swing with tea or coffee and just listening to mother nature at her best. I also relax by knitting or crocheting which is usually a winter activity.
Which genre is far more appealing to you as a reader?
As a reader I like historical fiction, science fiction, fantasy for the most part. But I read any genre that appeals to me when I read the cover. I like the fact on Amazon I can read other’s reviews before I invest in a book.
What inspires you to write? Is there any level of similarity with the events or characters in your book and in reality?
I guess life inspires me to write. It just seems to bubble up from inside of me. As far as my life and the events or characters in my books I would have to say there is some similarity. Dobyns Chronicles is very loosely based on my Great Grandfather Charlie Dobyns. The majority of the characters are people who I knew growing up in rural Oklahoma.
Which is your current read?
Right now I have started on Diane Gabledon’s latest entry to the Outlander Series, Written In My Own Heart’s Blood. I loved reading that series and I had to wait awhile for this book.
What, in your opinion is the toughest part while carving your book?
I think the toughest part is spending long hours in front of the computer. My husband feels neglected when I am writing. It is all consuming.
Share a word of advice with our readers and authors, if any?
My advice for other writers is to follow the writing process. Take time to follow the steps and don’t get in a big hurry. Patience is the name of the game. I have found out writing the book is easy, what goes along with it is hard work.
Share one of your favorites from your music band collection, if any?
I don’t really have a collection. I like listening to the oldies from the 1950’s and 1960’s and Gospel groups.
If you’re a foodie, tell us about your favorite dish?
I love food so it’s hard for me to pick out just one dish. I can say one of my favorite meals is steak, baked potato, grilled corn on the cob and salad.
List any giveaways or surprises in mere future?
I just got through with a giveaway on Goodreads and I plan to do another in the near future, but no date has been set yet. I will announce it on my sites when I get the date set.
Where can we find your books?
You can go to Amazon and type in the title and my name and it will take you to the page that has my books. I like the fact you can actually read the first chapter there.
